Katy Maguire Lushman is a entrepreneur, innovator, communications and advancement specialist, and musician, and based in Leysin, Switzerland. Throughout her professional career, she has taken an innovative approach to create products, projects, and businesses in the arts and education industries, nurturing concepts from ideation to execution. Possessing a unique combination of big picture and linear thinking, Katy uses creativity and organization to deliver impactful, community-driven ideas.
Since 2021, Katy has envisioned, managed, and executed strategic programs, events, products, and projects in her role as Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Projects at Leysin American School in Switzerland. In addition to strategizing and overseeing the implementation of digital/print communications assets to internal and external stakeholders while supporting digital/print marketing initiatives, Katy has also coordinated programmatic series (Global Alumni Events, Alumni Visiting Scholars, Belle Époque Magique, Partners in Sustainability) and major events (including a four-day event for 1,200 people with CHF 1.6M budget).
In 2018, Katy founded Choir League LLC, a non-auditioned community choir geared toward millennials, providing adults the opportunity to continue singing throughout their lives in a fun, casual, and musically fulfilling environment. Choir League partners with bars, restaurants, and local businesses for rehearsals and performances and frequently collaborates with other artists - collaborators include a DJ, a visual artist, a local band, and a choir devoted to spirituals. In its first three seasons, Choir League has grew 6x and performed in venues ranging from Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox to Red Rocks to Carnegie Hall. In 2021, Katy managed the reorganization and sale of Choir League and retains partial ownership in the company.
A music educator from 2004-2021, Katy most recently taught at Denver North High School, a Title I public school working with students from diverse backgrounds, and was an affiliate faculty member at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she supervised music student teachers. In 2021, Katy relocated to Leysin, Switzerland to become the Assistant Director of Communications and Advancement at Leysin American School. Previously, Katy taught music in Ohio, Switzerland and China, and she is originally from northern Virginia.
Holding a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College, Katy regularly serves on the boards of professional music organizations, as a clinician for honor choirs, as a consultant for arts groups, and presents sessions at state and national conferences around issues of equity in music education and innovation in the choral arts throughout the United States. In addition to her work as a conductor and educator, Katy is an active vocalist and has performed with groups ranging from professional choirs to the folk trio, Falling for Annie.
