Katy was a proud member of the Denver North High School music team from 2013-2021, a Title I school in the Denver Public School district. Over the years she taught the Concert, Women's, and Honor Choirs, Guitar and Piano classes, AP Music Theory and CU Succeeds Music Theory, and started the Modern Band program, in addition to expanding the music program to include Audio Production, Music as Culture, and Mariachi.

In 2014 she founded the Northside Music Project to provide a choral opportunity for 5th-8th graders in North Denver and in 2016 she founded the DPS Choral Showcase as a non-competitive choral festival where middle and high school students could share their art together and support each other.

Katy was presented the Denver Teacher's Distinguished Teacher Award in 2018 and the North Arts Team earned the Excellence in Team award from DPS the same year. Over the years her students have performed with professional orchestras, hip hop artists, a bluegrass band, and many other collaborators.
